Approximately 200,000 tons of solid waste are generated annually in the U.S. and more than one percent of that waste is from electronic equipment. While electronic waste is only a small percentage of the total solid waste collected, it accounts for 70% of the heavy metals that end up in landfills.
To help reduce this statistic and become better environmental stewards, OptiMed Specialty Pharmacy will be collecting “all things electronic” throughout the month of August.
The public is invited to take part in this earth-friendly initiative by dropping off their electronic waste at OptiMed Specialty Pharmacy’s national headquarters, 6480 Technology Avenue, Suite A, Kalamazoo. A collection box will be located in our front lobby.
Below is a list of electronics that will be accepted:
Desktop & Laptop Computers
Cords & cables
Modems and WI-FI routers
Power Network Cables
Network hubs and switches
Routers and firewalls
Copy machines (service fee applies)
Medical Equipment with NO BIO Hazards
Printed Circuit Boards
Gaming Consoles & Peripherals
Small Household Appliances
No televisions or LCD screens will be accepted at this time.
Electronic waste will be collected at OptiMed headquarters at the end of August by Schupan & Sons, a full-service electronics recycler based in Kalamazoo. For more information, call OptiMed at 877-232-2857.
